Banana, Walnut and LSA Muffins

Image
I always have a batch of home-made muffins made and in the freezer - I find they go a lot faster with two monkeys now! They provide a fast, easy and healthy snack which I can grab while on the go, and these particular muffins I literally lived on while breast-feeding (and expressing) Smushie. These muffins are packed full of nutrients to help with breastfeeding, giving a boost of protein and essential fatty acids from the walnuts and LSA. In particular, LSA (ground mix of linseeds, sunflower seeds and almonds) provides the essential fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6, B vitamins and fiber. It contains no wheat, gluten, artificial colours, preservatives or chemical additives - a great product to have in your home! You can get LSA from most health food shops and supermarkets today (pictured below). This recipe also contain no refined sugar and is one of my one-bowl wonders - it's not fancy but it sure is fast - just add, mix and bake!! Ingredients: 3 bananas 1 and 1/4 cups of whole-meal

Healthy Homemade Chocolates

Valentines Day is coming up! I know that it is super commercialised now but hey in the busyness of life, especially with children, it does not hurt to have a decent excuse to put some time into those that you love, especially your partner. I actually created this recipe when Smushie was a newborn and I was often up late at night feeding him....little monkey still likes a middle of the night feed! Using only four ingredients and free of refined sugar these little heart chocolates will be a sure winner for a home-made Valentines Day pressie! You will need a chocolate mold - for those in New Zealand I found a large variety at Spotlight for approximately $10 (bargain!) Ingredients: 1/2 cup of coconut oil 1/2 cup of coco powder 1 tsp of vanilla extract 3-4 Tb of honey   Directions: 1. Melt coconut oil in a saucepan. 2. Add the other ingredients (coco powder, vanilla extract and honey) mix well together - stir constantly until smooth. 3. Spoon into molds and place into the fridge for an hour

Sahan's Birth Story

Sahan Raj Bhosale - Saturday 17 th Jan 2015, 11.10pm The birth of our second son was quite different to that of our first – which was a fairly text book natural birth.  Most of you will have read my earlier blogs ( 37 weeks and 39 weeks ) about the challenges I encountered during the later stages of my pregnancy with pelvic athropathy which meant I needed to be induced. It was a very surreal experience waking up and knowing that this was the day our baby would be born (or at least by the end of the weekend). We got to the hospital just before 7.30am and was greeted by my midwife – boy was I glad to see her after an agonising time dealing with the maternity system without her. She explained the process of an induction, the possible risks and complications. I nearly backed out at that point. Her words “we are messing with nature” ringing in my ears – this was not what I wanted. Then I went to move from the bed and shock waves of pain from my pelvis reminded me exactly why I was doing t
