5 Hilarious Things Bam Bam Did Last Weekend

Image
It's been one of those weeks for us and last weekend was a true test of our parenting ability - it was very much a case of our 19 month son Bam Bam vrs Mum and Dad and you can guess who had the upper hand. We were both exhausted, battling colds (kindly given to us from our darling son) and we were both juggling outstanding work (me) and shift work (husband) in the weekend. We have learnt in times like these to come together in a united front and embrace the chaos as much as humanly possibly and this is what kept us smiling: 1. Bam Bam roaring at the tigers at Auckland Zoo - our son loves the zoo and in slight desperation to keep him occupied we took him there both in the morning and afternoon on Sunday and it was hilarious watching him 'Roar' at the tiger's who promptly 'Roared' back at him giving him the fright of his life!! 2. Bam Bam got chased by a Pukeko - feeding the ducks by Auckland Zoo our son tried to chase a Pukeko who turned tail on him and ran after

Pros of Probiotics

Image
A little pre-warning about this blog it’s a little bit technical but full of important, relevant info so if you are a little sleep deprived and just want the practical suggestions – skip the technical jargon and go to the end :) The World Health Organisation defines a probiotic as any living microorganism that has a health benefit when ingested. The word "probiotic" is actually a compound of two Greek words: "pro," to signify promotion of and "biotic," which means life. Each of us has more than 1,000 different types of bacteria that live in our digestive tracts, helping us to break down food and absorb nutrients. These “good bacteria” are used to prevent and alleviate many different conditions, but particularly those that affect the gastrointestinal tract. Probiotics form a bioreactor, which facilitates digestion, provides nutrients, and helps form the immune system. Some important nutrients made by this bioreactor include several B vitamins, vitamin K, fo

Guilt-Free Chocolate Cake

Image
Cake is one of my weaknesses (we all have them) and this is a recipe I created after desperately searching for an easy chocolate cake recipe that was not laden with flour and refined sugar but also had everyday ingredients - and being frustrated that I could not find anything. I would still call this a treat but this one you do not need to feel guilty about as it is grain-free, refined sugar free and dairy free- just perfect for Mother’s Day! Ingredients 1 cup of ground almonds 1 cup of cocoa powder 4 eggs ½ cup (4Tbs) of coconut oil, melted 4 Tbs desiccated coconut 3 Tbs dark chocolate chips (optional) 2 Tbs honey 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp vanilla essence Pinch of salt Extra coconut oil/butter (to grease tin)   Directions: Preheat oven to 180°C and grease a round cake tin (I used an 8 inch with a removable base). In one bowl combine all dry ingredients (ground almonds, cocoa powder, coconut, baking soda, chocolate chips and salt). In another bowl combine all wet ingredients (eggs

A Day in the Life of a Mum - 18months In

Image
October 22 nd 2012 at 9.32am I became a mother. A moment in time I will never ever forget and to be honest, life before that just seems insignificant. With Mother’s Day on Sunday I thought I would share two personal diary entries that for me, with my son at 18 months, portrays the roller coaster ride of being a mum - the incredible joy and the moments where you are pushed beyond all limits you thought you had….come have a laugh and a cry with me… Bottom of the Roller Coaster (Feb 3 rd 2014) Why is it always in the biggest weeks, on the most important days your child gets sick? It is never the quiet days – or is it just that every day is a big day? I smelt the vomit in Arjun’s room before I even saw it this morning and my guilt meter rocketed over 1000 as I thought I heard him coughing in the middle of the night but he went back to sleep so I did not check on him – terrible irresponsible mother - the what ifs spiralling around me. I grabbed my wee boy and he started dry reaching over
